As the manager representing the owner party, have you ever wondered if the mechanical and electrical equipment—running nearly 24/7, 365 days a year—might be undermining the energy-saving goals of your “green building”?
As a BIM consulting firm’s model designer, have you been concerned whether the official website, after comprehensive pipeline adjustments, can still meet operational requirements using the equipment specified in the original design? Has the system’s hydraulic balance shifted at its most critical point?
As an installation professional, have you ever been frustrated that after completing on-site installation for large public construction projects, system integration relies solely on experience without precise quantification?
As an operation and maintenance supervisor, have you considered whether the entire system can continue to be optimized and adjusted as projects grow larger and mechanical and electrical equipment become more complex?
Introduction to MagiCAD Software
MagiCAD is a dual-platform software solution, pioneering mechanical and electrical BIM tools for ventilation, power, and piping design in Norway, Russia, and China. It has sold over 20,000 licenses across more than 50 countries worldwide.
With powerful drawing and calculation capabilities, MagiCAD allows you to create precise BIM models, simplifying and streamlining the design process. It also enables direct access to an extensive product library during design, featuring tens of millions of product models from leading real-world manufacturers. Using comprehensive technical data, you can perform calculations directly within Revit and AutoCAD platforms.
Key Features of MagiCAD Software
Ventilation System
MagiCAD assists your design workflow with intelligent features. For example, changing the direction of an air duct automatically generates bends. Connecting a duct to a bend transforms it into a T-shaped tee connection. Adjusting a pipe diameter automatically updates connecting components, such as variable diameter connections. Adding a custom pipe size triggers automatic creation of all necessary components for pipe diameter selection calculations. From simple air ducts to end system devices, all products include detailed technical data.
The ventilation design module offers extensive calculation functions, including flow superposition, pipe diameter selection, hydraulic balance, noise analysis, and material statistics. Once the airflow system outline is drawn, calculations can be performed with just a few clicks.
Features include:
- Compatible with AutoCAD and Revit platforms
- Fast and simple modeling through various drawing and editing tools
- Seamless switching between 1D single-line, 2D plan, and 3D solid diagrams within seconds
- Access to a vast product library with detailed product information
- Automatic pipe diameter selection and pressure loss calculations
- Noise level assessment
- System balance verification and valve opening display based on calculation results
- Identification of the system’s most critical loop
- Traffic data analysis
- Automatic or manual annotation additions
- Quick text size adjustments
- Automatic material list generation
- Collision detection within mechanical and electrical systems and with enclosure structures
- Automatic creation and updating of profile maps
- Separate display modes can be set for each viewport to showcase design results with varied effects
- Custom selection plugins for product manufacturers
- Ability to define state values, such as new or existing objects

Water System Design Module
The MagiCAD water system design module enables simultaneous drawing of multiple pipelines and includes radiator connection features, significantly reducing design time by eliminating the need to draw each pipeline individually. It supports automatic pipe diameter selection and system balance calculations, helping you choose the most suitable radiator from manufacturer product lines.
Features include:
- Compatible with AutoCAD and Revit MEP platforms
- Efficient drawing through various selection and editing tools
- Fast switching between 1D single-line, 2D plan, and 3D solid views
- Design capabilities for heating, cooling, water supply and drainage, fire sprinkler systems, and more
- Ability to draw 1, 2, or 3 pipelines simultaneously
- Convenient radiator selection tool
- Access to extensive product library
- Automatic pipe diameter selection and pressure loss calculation, including pipelines with differential pressure valves
- System balance verification with valve opening or Kv value display based on calculations
- Analysis and display of the system’s most critical loop flow data
- Automatic or manual annotation features
- Quick text modification
- Automatic material list generation
- Collision detection within mechanical and electrical systems and enclosure structures
- Automatic and convenient profile map creation and updates
- Separate display modes per viewport for varied design presentations
- Custom selection plugins for manufacturers
- Flexible definition of state values for new or existing objects
Example of Using MagiCAD for Balance Calculation
During pipeline optimization and adjustment, model designers noticed multiple collisions between the fresh air duct and the smoke exhaust duct within a narrow corridor. To resolve this, the fresh air duct was repeatedly rerouted and bent. After adjustments, software calculations revealed increased resistance along the furthest air duct, indicating that the original fresh air unit model no longer met outlet requirements. The model designer advised the owner to select a more suitable unit model.
In traditional system integration and debugging of large-scale projects, technicians calibrate equipment mainly based on construction drawings and experience, a process that is time-consuming and often yields suboptimal results. Equipment may not operate at peak efficiency, and valve openings are adjusted intuitively. By using the BIM as-built model alongside MagiCAD software, valve openings can be precisely adjusted within the model to optimize equipment performance.
This approach enables technicians to quickly identify the system’s most critical points, calculate branch imbalance rates, and simulate system operation through a 1:1 scale model. It significantly reduces the time required for integration and debugging and lays a solid foundation for stable equipment operation in the future.
