There are four main series of BIM modeling software available on the market. Let’s explore them together:

1) Autodesk Revit Series: This series includes architectural, structural, and MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) design software. It holds a significant advantage in the civil construction market and has demonstrated strong market performance.
2) Bentley Series: Covering architectural, structural, and equipment design software, Bentley excels in industrial plant and infrastructure projects. Its strengths are evident in sectors such as petroleum, chemical, electrical, municipal, water conservancy, roads, and bridges.
3) ArchiCAD: As the flagship product of Graphisoft, ArchiCAD is recognized as one of the best 3D architectural design software solutions worldwide. Beyond boosting design productivity for firms, ArchiCAD aids companies in managing and retrieving design documents more efficiently and systematically. It stands as one of the earliest BIM core modeling software with substantial market influence, contributing greatly to improving design standards and enhancing the value of intellectual property.
4) Dassault’s SolidWorks and CATIA: These are leading mechanical manufacturing design software globally, with strong market positions in industries such as mechanical manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, and metallurgy. Dassault’s products are built on 3D solid modeling technology, offering excellent adaptability to complex shapes and forms. When applied to engineering design, they provide clear advantages.
Additionally, DigitalProject is a software developed by GeryTechnology based on CATIA, specializing in architectural and structural design applications.
Moreover, TeklaXsteel is a steel structure detailing software developed by Finnish company Tekla.
Currently, mature BIM structural design software includes Revit Structure, Bentley Structure, and Tekla. Many excellent structural analysis and design tools such as Etabs, SAP2000, and Midas support BIM capabilities through data interfaces or IFC standards. In China, mature BIM software is primarily applied in cost estimation and construction fields. Structural analysis and design programs also expand BIM functionality by enhancing data interfaces within existing platforms.
