Transportation is a fundamental, leading, and strategic sector within the national economy. It serves as an essential service industry and a key component of the modern economic system. The State Council’s “14th Five-Year Plan for Developing a Modern Comprehensive Transportation System” emphasizes the construction of the “Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal” high-speed railway corridors as the main framework. Regional high-speed railway lines will provide connections, supplemented by intercity railways partially serving trunk functions. The high-speed railway network, designed for speeds of 250 kilometers per hour or more, aims to cover over 95% of cities with populations exceeding 500,000, while bottlenecks in conventional-speed railways will be mostly eliminated.
By the end of 2021, China’s railway network had expanded to 150,000 kilometers in operation, including 40,000 kilometers of high-speed rail. National railway passenger volume reached 2.612 billion, marking an increase of 408 million passengers or 18.5% compared to the previous year. Passenger turnover totaled 956.781 billion person-kilometers, up by 130.162 billion person-kilometers or 15.7% year-over-year. As of May 2022, 51 cities across 31 provinces (including autonomous regions, municipalities directly under central government, and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps) had launched 275 urban rail transit lines, totaling 8,917 kilometers in operation. Daily train operations reached 2.5 million trips, carrying 1.33 billion passengers with 820 million station entries.
The total exhibition area is nearly 40,000 square meters.
More than 300 domestic and international companies are expected to participate.
In this dynamic market environment, the 17th ARTS 2022 International Advanced Rail Transit Technology Exhibition · Nanjing and the International Underground Engineering and Tunnel Technology Exhibition (collectively referred to as “ARTS International Rail Transit Exhibition”) will be held from November 23 to 25 at the Nanjing International Expo Center. This event is initiated by the Urban Transportation Network and jointly organized by the Urban Public Transport Branch of the Chinese Society of Civil Engineering, the National Quality Supervision and Inspection Center for Nondestructive Testing Equipment, the Geotechnical Engineering Alliance, and Shengge Exhibition (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.
The exhibition covers nearly 40,000 square meters and is expected to host over 300 companies from both domestic and international markets. Exhibitors will showcase cutting-edge technologies and high-end rail transit products, unveiling the latest equipment in rail transit and advanced intelligent machinery. The event will highlight new concepts, materials, and processes in rail transit. Additionally, leading enterprises will jointly unveil their newest products and technological achievements on-site. The exhibition anticipates attracting more than 25,000 industry professionals.
Gathering the latest technologies from around the world
Driving the global advancement of the rail transit industry
ARTS International Rail Transit Exhibition ranks among Asia’s most comprehensive professional events with a broad range of categories and a large audience. Exhibitors represent diverse sectors, including vehicles and components, rail transit vehicle interiors, rail security technology and equipment, power supply and new energy for rail transit, vehicle application materials, smart rail transit and communication signals, tunnels and underground engineering, and engineering maintenance.
The exhibition boasts abundant industry resources and attracts professional buyers from both domestic and international markets annually. The previous show featured participants from over ten countries and regions and received support from international exhibition groups from Germany, Spain, Türkiye, India, the Philippines, and more. This reflects strong global confidence in the Chinese market and ARTS International Rail Transit Exhibition’s international stature.
Despite challenges posed by the pandemic, the 2021 exhibition still welcomed over a thousand overseas visitors—a 6% increase compared to the previous year.
After 16 successful editions, the exhibition has grown steadily in size, with increasing numbers of exhibitors and visitors. It enjoys unanimous praise from industry professionals. In the most recent exhibition, over 88% of exhibitors expressed high satisfaction with the event, and 95% of visitors confirmed they would return in the future.
Hosting multiple forums simultaneously
Leading industry development
The exhibition will also host numerous forums featuring industry leaders, experts, and property owners to emphasize the role of rail transit as a backbone of the comprehensive transportation system, especially highlighting its green and low-carbon advantages.
At the previous edition, ARTS International Rail Transit Exhibition invited nearly 50 industry guests to participate in high-level activities such as the Underground Engineering and Tunnel Technology Application Seminar, China Rail Transit Development Summit Forum, Yangtze River Delta Urban Circle Urban (Suburban) Rail Transit Development Seminar, and China Railway Construction Association Work Conference. These forums addressed practical industry challenges, focused on current hotspots, fostered consensus, offered professional solutions and technologies, supported industrial upgrading, and contributed to technological innovation and sector growth.
In recent years, the rise of “Internet Plus” and intelligent applications has driven the creation, development, and application of many new ideas and technologies. Powered by innovations such as the Internet, cloud computing, big data, and new energy, rail transit is evolving toward informatization, digitalization, intelligence, and sustainability. This exhibition will feature multiple forums focused on these emerging technologies and trends, gathering industry insights and guiding future development.
