“If there are many solutions to a problem, the one that conveys beauty and emotion to users is architecture.” — Louis Barragan

This project is located in Yingzhou District, Fuyang City, adjacent to Yaochi Park, which connects seamlessly with the Ying River. The site’s exceptional lakeside environment and scenic views provide a unique foundation, which the planning and design elevate to its fullest potential.

Concept

The building’s lightweight form and semi-transparent façade give it the appearance of rising from the water like misty clouds, seemingly floating just above the ground.

By respecting people’s perceptions and spatial experiences, the architecture transcends traditional boundaries and integrates harmoniously with lush greenery, offering residents a natural experience and a fresh approach to community living.

The architectural form emerges by gently lifting the volume from the ground, creating a gap that becomes the building’s first-floor space. Large floor-to-ceiling glass panels blur the lines between indoor and outdoor areas, visually connecting the interior lobby to the outdoor water feature platform and the adjacent square, forming a seamless whole.

This floating mass allows the surrounding landscape to flow through the structure, crafting poetic spaces within the interplay of steel and concrete. The design aims to dissolve fixed boundaries and functions, liberating form to embrace limitless future possibilities and inviting nature itself inside. This approach maximizes the perception of the site’s unique landscape resources.

Space | Streamline

Well-designed urban spaces foster new lifestyles and social interactions, shaping the future of city living by creating meaningful places and connections among people.

The demonstration zone’s design focuses on creating dynamic spatial environments. In response to urban needs, the project emphasizes urban revitalization through design, integrating parks and roads into a cohesive plan that enhances interaction with the city. This approach aims to strengthen residents’ sense of identity, starting from the city exhibition hall and continuing the city’s vibrant energy through innovation.

The streamlined design draws inspiration from the concept of a spiritual fortress, using the entrance square as a central gathering point. The space flows around a water feature wall, creating a rhythm of expansion and contraction that transitions smoothly from the external environment into the city’s interior. The scenic wall skillfully evokes a visible yet unattainable psychological allure within the viewer’s field of vision.

One of the key design focuses is the spatial experience of visitors moving through the site. A gently winding landscape trail links together a series of fragmented spaces. Guided by the scenic wall and following a strategy of approaching the target indirectly, the linear path gradually becomes richer and more three-dimensional, unfolding step by step.

After several turns, the path opens up to reveal a vast lawn with water features. The sales center appears to float above the water like a piece of art, creating a stunning visual impact. Its first floor is enclosed by a full glass curtain wall, blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces while establishing a harmonious and interdependent relationship between them.

Detail Design | On-site Control

The minimalist form and choice of materials demanded precise construction node design and meticulous on-site management. Given the involvement of multiple material transitions, the design team employed a digital model to accurately position the curtain wall components. Through precise segmentation and alignment, they closely collaborated with the construction team to ensure flawless execution of the design.

Facing a tight construction schedule, the designers held multiple on-site discussions with the owner and construction team regarding curtain wall installation methods and techniques. They implemented strict requirements for the keel layout to ensure the project achieved a unified artwork that balances craftsmanship and aesthetics.

During detailed design, the team carefully reviewed joint effects in the digital model, finalizing the size, alignment, and edge finishing of each aluminum panel and glass unit. The consistent use of seam drawing technology across different curtain wall sections results in an elegant, clean, and sophisticated overall appearance.

For the exterior walls, three materials were selected to emphasize the theme of floating: ultra-white glass, perforated aluminum panels, and U-shaped glass. The perforated aluminum panels underwent parametric design to etch the landscape of Fuyang onto the building like ink, paying homage to the city’s culture and environment.

In determining perforation sizes, the design balanced daylight and nighttime lighting effects, ultimately selecting 20mm, 15mm, and 10mm holes arranged to produce a layered visual effect that transitions from clear to hazy.

Light

Where light meets water, technology blends with creativity. The photoelectric curtain wall highlights the entrance space, while various landscape elements enclose and define both interior and exterior environments.

At night, the three curtain wall types reveal their unique characters through lighting—sometimes vibrant, sometimes subtle—coexisting in harmony. Detailed groove treatments create a layered, three-dimensional shadow rhythm reminiscent of a trio of instruments playing a beautiful urban symphony.
