This portal project serves as a meaningful bridge connecting people with the environment through education and history. At its heart lies a central gathering space inspired by traditional African architecture and indigenous settlements. This core area welcomes visitors, guiding them into the public space before they embark on their African wildlife journey. It also offers shelter and a preview of the vast surroundings during unfavorable weather. This iconic structure effectively sets visitors’ expectations for the adventure ahead.

The design is composed of two distinct yet interconnected elements. The intertwining curved ribbons symbolize the fusion of indigenous and African cultures, reflecting a deep connection to the land, plants, and animals. This subtle yet iconic form invites visitors to engage in interpretation and dialogue.

The project demonstrates an understanding that conservation begins with human appreciation of nature, reinforced by instinctive, immersive experiences. This landmark portal offers an unforgettable transition from Australia to Africa. Every visitor departing this space becomes an ambassador for the Monato Zoo.
