Currently, several popular simulation software options are widely used in the market, including the following:
(1) Synchro4D/5D Construction Simulation Software
Synchro4D/5D is a powerful construction simulation software known for its robust management capabilities in construction schedule planning. It offers real-time shared engineering data access to all project stakeholders, including owners, architects, structural engineers, contractors, subcontractors, and material suppliers. Using the Synchro series, engineers can schedule construction processes, synchronize design changes, and perform visual simulations. This software is primarily designed for large-scale and complex engineering projects, providing integration with other engineering data to deliver rich and dynamic 4D simulations.
(2) 3DStudioMax
Also known as 3ds Max, this PC-based 3D animation rendering and production software was originally developed by Discreet, later acquired by Autodesk. It stands out for features such as stackable modeling steps, offering great flexibility in model creation. 3ds Max performs well in project bidding, advertising production, and construction simulation for visual presentations. However, its high hardware requirements and the typical lack of architectural expertise among animation professionals limit its widespread use in construction simulation.
(3) Navisworks
Autodesk Navisworks is a highly regarded BIM 4D simulation software in the industry. It integrates design data from applications like AutoCAD and Revit, combining geometric shapes and information from other software to create a comprehensive 3D project model. This model can be reviewed in real-time across multiple file formats. Navisworks enables the integration of various engineering disciplines for design decision-making, construction implementation, performance prediction, planning, and management optimization. This holistic approach enhances project control, increases efficiency, and ensures quality. Furthermore, Navisworks offers relatively straightforward functionality, allowing for targeted secondary development tailored to specific needs.
(4) Domestic BIM Software
With the growing adoption of BIM technology, domestic software vendors such as Luban, Guanglianda, and Pinming have developed their own BIM solutions. Tianzheng Company, a widely used architectural design and drafting software provider in China, is developing Revit plugins to enable quick and simple creation of Revit 3D models. Additionally, companies like PKPM and Guanglianda have partnered with Autodesk to facilitate file exchange with Revit software. However, compared to more mature BIM technologies abroad, China’s BIM development is still evolving, and there remains a need to deepen understanding and application of BIM technology in the domestic market.
