Currently, there are four primary BIM core modeling software packages that have been widely used in the market for an extended period:

1. Autodesk Revit – This series covers architecture, structural, and MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) disciplines. Revit enables highly integrated 3D collaborative design, allowing multiple specialties—such as architecture, structure, plumbing, and electrical—to combine into a single unified BIM model. It is a powerful tool for structural design and modeling, supporting parameterization of components and 3D visualization of both overall and local models. Revit is highly compatible with AutoCAD and has a strong presence in the civil construction market.
2. Bentley Systems – Bentley offers a suite for architecture, structures, and equipment design, excelling particularly in factory design and infrastructure projects. Bentley has developed a unified graphics platform called MicroStation, which integrates various professional tools and uses a consistent file format and data architecture. This approach positions Bentley as a leader in data consistency and integration.
3. ArchiCAD by Graphisoft – Acquired by Nemetschek in 2007, Graphisoft was among the pioneers of Building Information Modeling. Their key products include ArchiCAD, AlPLAN, and VectorWorks. ArchiCAD is widely used in China and supports a full BIM workflow throughout the project lifecycle. It simplifies modeling and documentation processes, allowing the model to be utilized until project completion. Designed for the global market, ArchiCAD is one of the earliest BIM core modeling tools with significant market influence and introduced the “virtual building” design concept centered on BIM technology.
4. Dassault Systèmes CATIA – CATIA is a high-end mechanical design and manufacturing software with a strong market position in industries such as aerospace, automotive, shipbuilding, factory design (especially steel structure factories), and construction. Its advanced hybrid modeling technology enables all modules to operate on a unified data platform with full correlation, supporting parallel engineering workflows and shortening design cycles. Additionally, DigitalProject, an application developed by GeryTechnology based on CATIA for engineering and construction, is classified under CATIA software due to its core platform.
