Located in western Hangzhou, this project leverages the growth of the local internet industry. The site’s design responds to its unique conditions and intended future usage. Positioned adjacent to water on the park’s rear and surrounded by low-density residential neighborhoods, the site dictates a clear design approach: the building should avoid massive, centralized volumes that dominate the space.
Considering that the primary users are young IT professionals spending nearly two-thirds of their day here, the design emphasizes spatial diversity and a playful atmosphere to enrich their experience.

The design draws inspiration from the traditional concept of “half house, half garden.” It features five relatively independent rectangular units arranged both horizontally and vertically to create a semi-open enclosure. This arrangement suits the site’s regular shape and high plot ratio requirements, balancing economy and rationality while fostering a collaborative office environment with overlapping spaces.
Beneath these rectangular volumes lies a flat, square base that incorporates staggered elements. This flexible platform allows for easy adjustment to accommodate future functional changes.

To offer a fresh office experience beyond traditional layouts, the functional plan integrates multiple zones with a focus on encouraging interaction and fluid movement. The L-shaped volume’s varying heights create several aerial gardens, inviting occupants to pause and relax while enjoying distant views brought into the site.

The grey space beneath the building volumes connects the otherwise separate courtyards, allowing seamless movement between them. On the northwest side near the river, a raised restaurant creates a sunken courtyard, serving as a natural gathering spot within the site.

The park’s exterior conveys transparency and openness, reflecting the structured order behind the creative process. The façade combines glass, stone, and aluminum in similar tones, with light and texture effects highlighting each building’s unique character.
Natural elements such as skylights, cloud shadows, and greenery soften the transition between indoor and outdoor spaces, creating an atmosphere that extends beyond a typical office environment.
