The Dong’an Lake Sports Center is situated in Dong’an New City, Longquanyi, at the heart of Chengdu’s “Dongjin” development initiative. This venue hosted the opening ceremony of the 31st World University Games. It comprises “one venue, three halls”: the main stadium with a seating capacity of 40,000, plus diving halls, multipurpose sports halls, small ball halls, and supportive public spaces including landscaped areas, activity plazas, basketball courts, and football fields.

During the Universiade, the corridor was designed to enhance transportation efficiency by linking the “One Venue, Three Pavilions” with surrounding public spaces. It connects the terrace areas of these pavilions, facilitating fast and convenient movement between venues. After the event, the corridor’s focus shifts to integrating with public spaces and sports fields, improving accessibility, enriching the landscape’s visual layers, and providing additional functional space for ongoing venue operations.

The corridor’s spatial form extends from the terraces of the “One Venue, Three Pavilions,” creating a vertical, undulating profile that offers varied visual experiences at different elevations while walking. Its spiral descent and inward contraction envelop the children’s activity area, forming a cohesive, enclosed space with a distinct volumetric presence. The central section features a forked platform, providing excellent viewing points of the stadium, plaza, and venue, as well as designated entrances and exits. These sculptural form changes deliver a dynamic spatial experience and diverse visual connections, while maintaining integration with the surrounding public spaces.

The corridor’s main structure consists of a 1-meter-thick steel box girder supported by hexagonal, V-shaped columns spaced 20 to 30 meters apart. The internal structure is painted orange, providing a striking contrast against the surroundings and emphasizing guidance as well as a sporty aesthetic.

The exterior “skin” is formed by two 3mm-thick steel plates bolted together. The white outer sheets reflect the internal orange structure and surrounding greenery, visually lightening the volume and harmonizing it with the site. Lighting fixtures are installed between the two thin plates, providing rich and layered illumination for the corridor at night.
