This village made a striking impression on me. It is truly beautiful. During my visit, the sky was mostly cloudy, with mist and clouds enveloping the entire village.

The architectural design draws inspiration directly from the project site, especially the pervasive clouds and fog that surround the village. The design features floating roofs that appear to hover in the air, seamlessly connecting nature, architecture, and the surrounding landscape. The terraced fields themselves possess architectural qualities, creating a vibrant atmosphere throughout the village. As a result, the floating roofs are designed to resemble clouds, enclosing the natural landscape and integrating the scenery as part of the building.

The building’s main structure is an open space designed for exhibitions, conferences, or art displays. From this core, the roof extends downward toward a nearby stream, creating a sense of continuity and harmony with nature. Additionally, the floating houses atop the roof serve as a transitional element between the traditional village structures and modern architecture.

The roof is crafted from naturally woven materials, giving it a light, soft texture that gently defines the boundary between architecture and the surrounding fields. The space enclosed by the eaves feels like a large courtyard open to the sky. We named this project “Flowing Clouds,” inspired both by the misty environment during our initial visit and the roof’s graceful form.

The circular roof design creates spaces that encourage gathering within the main building while allowing visitors to fully experience the natural surroundings. This approach ensures the building blends harmoniously with the landscape rather than standing out as a simple box-shaped structure. It offers diverse areas where people can stroll along the rooftops and enjoy the enchanting views of the village and scenery.
