In railway bridge engineering, Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology integrates structural data and real-time updates into a comprehensive three-dimensional digital model. This model encapsulates complete information about the railway bridge structure and the construction site, enabling efficient visualization and management of bridge geometry, structural parameters, and component details. By applying BIM technology, the design, construction, and management phases of bridge projects can be seamlessly coordinated. Engineering and technical personnel gain a clear understanding and can respond effectively to various bridge-related information, fostering improved collaboration across departments. The main applications of BIM technology in this field are outlined below:

(1) Quantity Statistics
Traditionally, quantity calculations in engineering were performed manually using two-dimensional drawings. This process was time-consuming and labor-intensive, with accuracy heavily dependent on the staff’s expertise. Moreover, changes in design required recalculating quantities from scratch, as the data was not dynamically linked. BIM modeling, thanks to its high level of precision, allows for rapid and accurate quantity estimation. When modifications occur, only the model needs updating, and the new quantities are automatically recalculated. This dynamic linkage between the model and data ensures efficiency and accuracy.
(2) Clash Detection
Two-dimensional drawings make it challenging to visually detect clashes between components, especially since design work is often divided among different disciplines without full communication. As a result, changes made in one area may not be promptly reflected across teams, leading to construction plan alterations, material rework, or waste during building. BIM technology addresses these issues by enabling the creation of detailed structural and layout models beforehand. It performs clash detection on components, generates comprehensive clash reports, and identifies potential conflicts before construction begins. This proactive approach allows for timely adjustments and fosters effective communication between designers, builders, and project owners.
