Our design philosophy centers on creating buildings and environments that foster happiness. In campus design, we go beyond merely constructing structures; we carefully consider the essential conditions for activities, experiences, and interactions. Hankasalmi School Centre was designed to serve all residents of Hankasalmi. This sculptural building stands out as a striking landmark and warmly welcomes everyone to the school. It represents a source of pride for the entire community.

The calm exterior walls and wooden entrance seamlessly connect the building with its natural surroundings, achieving a harmonious and fresh aesthetic. Thanks to a dynamic and flexible spatial layout, the school’s facilities support a variety of learning experiences. The hall is equipped to accommodate art, cultural, and sports activities. Staircases serve multiple roles as gathering spots for socializing, learning, and performances.

The school’s interior spaces are organized using furniture and partition elements that create flexible “pop-up” classrooms or temporary learning environments. Natural themes guide visitors through the building, with each section representing a notable tree, reflecting Hankasalmi’s rich timber industry heritage. This theme is expressed through the choice of materials and colors in each area.

The outdoor trees echo the interior design, maintaining a consistent tone and aligning with each entrance and exit. Beyond this natural integration, the architectural design anticipates the school’s future focus: Hankasalmi School is Finland’s only high school specializing in orienteering.
