BIM Q&A: Strategies for Promoting BIM Implementation During Completion and Handover of Comprehensive Pipe Gallery Projects

The completion and delivery phase involves accepting the BIM implementation results after the completion model has been finalized, submitting operation and maintenance data, and obtaining confirmation from the construction unit before proceeding with the handover. The BIM implementation guidelines for this phase are as follows:

BIM Q&A | How to promote the implementation of BIM? Implementation Rules for BIM during the Completion and Delivery Phase of Comprehensive Pipe Gallery Project

1. Completion of the Final Model

The construction unit is responsible for completing the final model, with key steps including:

  1. Building upon the construction stage model and incorporating actual site conditions to ensure the final model accurately reflects the completed construction.
  2. Enhancing the model with relevant information such as equipment attribute descriptions, based on acceptance data.

Once the supervisory unit conducts a preliminary review to verify the consistency between the final model and the site, the BIM consulting unit carries out an initial assessment of the model’s accuracy and depth. Following this, the BIM consulting unit submits an acceptance application to the construction unit.

The construction unit then organizes all participating parties to perform a BIM implementation acceptance review, based on the final model and real project applications. The BIM consulting unit issues a BIM implementation acceptance report and compiles the project acceptance data for the construction unit’s approval.

The deliverables at this stage include the finalized completion model and an acceptance report containing comprehensive project information. The primary objective is to establish a solid data and work foundation for the operation and maintenance phase.

2. Delivery of Operation and Maintenance Materials

The BIM consulting unit must provide data materials that meet the operation and maintenance requirements set by the construction unit. Key implementation points include:

  1. Coordinating with the operation and maintenance team to define data delivery standards, and preparing the final model and associated materials accordingly.
  2. Transferring the operation and maintenance integration model and other relevant data to the construction unit for approval, following the agreed delivery process and requirements.

The output of this stage is the operation and maintenance data, intended to serve as a foundation for subsequent model applications during the operation and maintenance phase.
