Recently, the Xi’an 2021 “Welcoming the National Games, Strengthening Skills, and Promoting Improvement” High Skilled Talent Skills Competition featured a BIM Technology Modeling contest. This event was jointly hosted by the Organization Department of the Municipal Party Committee, the Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, and the Municipal Federation of Trade Unions. The Municipal Trade Union and Xi’an Construction Group served as co-organizers.
This competition is one of the 13 major categories and 51 projects within the 2021 Xi’an High Skilled Talent Skills Competition, designed to welcome the National Games, enhance skills, and promote professional improvement. As a top-tier municipal-level contest, it attracted extensive participation since registration opened in August. Over 130 BIM professionals from 34 construction companies across central and provincial regions signed up, marking a record high in both participants and participating organizations.
Unlike previous editions, this competition was conducted in two stages: the preliminary and the final rounds, with a strong focus on practical BIM application skills. Beyond testing participants’ theoretical knowledge, the contest assessed their capability to build and utilize BIM models effectively.
To ensure smooth execution amid epidemic prevention measures, Xi’an Construction Engineering Group innovatively transformed the offline competition into an online format, minimizing in-person gatherings. They quickly developed an online theoretical knowledge examination system featuring real-name registration, AB test versions, and online testing for over 100 participants, guaranteeing the successful completion of the preliminary round.
After the preliminary round, 14 teams advanced to the finals’ online defense stage. The competition committee invited five industry experts to evaluate and defend the 14 submissions via video conferencing.
In recent years, Xi’an Construction Engineering Group has placed great emphasis on BIM technology, actively promoting comprehensive BIM integration in new construction projects. By hosting an annual BIM technology application competition, the group accelerates BIM adoption and practical implementation. Furthermore, the entire organization participates enthusiastically in BIM contests at municipal, provincial, and national levels.
Over the past two years, Xi’an Construction Engineering has earned 12 awards in national BIM competitions, 24 awards in provincial contests, and 24 awards at the municipal level. This achievement has fostered a vibrant culture of BIM learning, application, and development throughout the group, providing robust technical support for the group’s industrial transformation, upgrading, and leapfrog growth.
