This project is situated within the Creative Commune planning area on Zhengxing Street, Tianfu New Area. It lies at the heart of the ecological protection zone of the park city. To the west, the Chengdu mother river Jinjiang flows, accompanied by a 200-meter-wide ecological protection zone. To the north lies the main axis of the park city, featuring the Luxi River ecological protection zone, which spans 1000 meters wide.

Nestled against the forest and embracing the bay, the site is backed by native woodlands and faces the waters of Dongfeng Reservoir. Located in the bay’s wetland, it benefits from an exceptional natural setting rich in biodiversity, especially birdlife. Rare species such as the red-bellied pheasant, spotted dove, thrush, and long-tailed sparrow inhabit the area year-round. Concurrently, government-led rural revitalization efforts respect the natural environment, giving rise to the creation of bird watching houses.

The bird watching house is primarily constructed from wood, a material closely connected to nature, and is encased in transparent glass to maximize views. Visitors can observe birds flying over the lake and enjoy uninterrupted vistas of the lake and surrounding mountains. The façade’s decorative surfaces draw inspiration from the site’s natural elements—mountains, stones, leaves, and trees—arranged in an orderly rhythm that creates a unique visual melody.

A small boat drifts freely across the lake,
From afar, it seems as if it will merge with the sky.
To the north of distant peaks, layers of clouds and mist gather,
While sunlight glimmers on the winding waterways.
The cicadas’ chorus fades, and the forest grows still,
As birdsong echoes, deepening the mountain’s sense of tranquility.

Rooted by the forest, nestled in the bay, and living beside the water,
Backed by indigenous woods, overlooking Dongfeng Reservoir’s lake surface.
Set within the wetlands of Huwan,
This is the story of a wooden house and its lake…
— Tianfu Qi’an Bird Watching House

Birds soar above the lake, offering panoramic views of the water and mountains,
Their chirps weaving softly around my ears—chirp, chirp, chirp.
Following the sounds,
They circle the wooden houses on the lake,
A story of birds and wooden homes unfolds…

Mountains, stones, water, islands, and leaves—
Birds forage on the mountain,
Rest upon stones,
Play on the water’s surface,
Explore the islands,
And build nests on tree branches.
This is a story of birds and their environment…

The bird watching house reflects its surroundings in every detail. Constructed mainly from natural wood, it features transparent glass all around to provide expansive views of birds playing on the lake.
