01 “Strolling in the Garden” — A Return to Poetry
Xiaomeilin is situated near Meilin Station on Shenzhen Metro’s Line 4, its name inspired by the poetic term “Yangmei Chenglin.” Embracing this lyrical essence, the design reflects a poetic vision. While living amidst a plum forest naturally invites one to enjoy the flowers and scenery, life in a bustling city of steel and concrete often feels disconnected from such tranquility. Our goal is to create a space where residents can slow down, easing the pressure and anxiety of fast-paced urban life. It’s a return to nature — the mountains, the ocean, the wild forest — and to the gentle romance of a slower pace, reminiscent of days when cars, horses, and mail brought a peaceful rhythm to life.
Thus, the theme of “Strolling in the Garden” was born.
Poetry resonates everywhere, even within the most modern cities.

02 “The Winding Path Leads to a Secluded Place” — A Gentle Walk
A winding path guides you to a quiet retreat, surrounded by lush flowers and trees within a meditative space.
As you stroll through the garden, winding paths and softly flowing streams unfold. The ceiling features curving lines that symbolize roads and streams, weaving throughout the entire Xiaomeilin area. This design highlights the principles of water management and harmony. By elevating the streams and paths overhead and enveloping the space in greenery, with stone benches nestled in courtyards and pebbled walkways beneath your feet, the environment exudes a peaceful, natural ambiance.

Both staircases feature irregular designs that embody the theme of “winding.” Ascending slowly, visitors experience moments of revelation as glimpses of the next floor’s space appear. Flanked by greenery or green railings, these winding paths bring a secluded mountain trail into the heart of the bustling city, creating a peaceful sanctuary hidden within urban life.
After long confinement in the urban cage, it’s time to reconnect with nature.

We have also incorporated modern technology into the design, using lighting channels to evoke a technological ambiance. The fire doors become part of the scenery, expanding the spatial experience. Passing through this technology corridor, one is welcomed by the natural serenity of “strolling in the garden.”
