TPHW is a modular temporary housing project developed by the Mexican Construction and Technology Office in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is supported by both local and international donors, including the Franco Mexican Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the National Importers and Exporters of Forest Products Association, and the National Suppliers of the Wood and Furniture Industry Association.
In many cities, hundreds of medical workers treating COVID-19 patients find themselves sleeping in their cars or other unsafe locations after their shifts. They do this to avoid exposing their families and communities to the virus through public transportation or returning home directly.

The firm Revolution designed a modular unit made from prefabricated wood and biodegradable plastic. Each unit includes a bedroom, shower, sink, toilet, a chlorinated water tank, and a 7-square-meter solar/electric heater. These modules are cost-effective, easy to assemble, and can either be recycled or disinfected and stored for future emergency use.

These modular units are ideal for outdoor installation, such as in vacant hospital parking lots. The design focuses on providing natural light, privacy, and a safe, quiet, contemplative indoor space to meet the physical and emotional needs of medical staff exhausted by the COVID-19 crisis.

Revolution focuses on emergency architecture and affordable micro-housing solutions in emerging countries. Notable projects include the People’s Building, a key development for affordable housing in the financial district of Mexico City, and a comprehensive plan for temporary housing for those affected by the 8.1-magnitude earthquake in Ocuilan, Mexico, in September 2017.
The first temporary housing unit was donated to the Red Cross Central Hospital in Mexico City.
