The Infinite Extension of the Eastern Triangle

This project is situated on Cuiyuan Street in Xihu District, Hangzhou City, at the western end of the “Wensan Road Electronic Information Street,” where Gongzhuan Road intersects Wensan Road. It is just a ten-minute walk from the scenic West Lake, offering an excellent geographical location.
Covering approximately 6,500 square meters, the site comprises three main buildings with multi-story frame structures. Before renovation, it primarily housed trade processing businesses and warehousing facilities. However, the park suffered from aging infrastructure, outdated and disorderly business formats, and obsolete office environments. As market competition intensified, the need for a comprehensive upgrade and renovation became urgent.

The existing buildings prominently feature numerous triangular elements, which not only characterize the project but also embody a rich Eastern aesthetic. Consequently, the design aims to amplify this feature, making the triangle a signature element throughout the development.

△ Design concept
These triangles vary in size and angle, and through continuous extension and intersection, they form patterns on the building facades that resemble mountain ridges, harmonizing with the site’s natural characteristics. The project’s color palette centers on black and white, enriched by accents of red brick, wood grain, and greenery. Modern construction techniques are employed to create a three-dimensional landscape painting inspired by West Lake.

At the outset, the park’s design embraced the theme of “ecology, humanities, and technology,” emphasizing the harmonious coexistence of humans and nature, work and environment. Efficient use of limited space became a top priority.
Due to the high-density office and storage functions, the park lacked shared leisure areas. Drawing inspiration from the spatial layout of the West Lake Scenic Area—which connects various attractions along its main route—we decided to create public spaces of varying sizes and volumes. These spaces are designed to be visible and accessible through thoughtful spatial planning. Additionally, rooftop areas are fully utilized, hosting sky gardens and rooftop sports facilities scaled to each building’s size.

△ Space concept
During the site inspection, we discovered that the enclosed layout of the existing buildings created triangular shadows of varying sizes on the exterior walls, depending on the sun’s angle. Leveraging this, we integrated a new isosceles triangle motif by interweaving the noon sunlight shadows with the enlarged triangular facade elements. This approach not only adds depth to the facade but also introduces a playful architectural detail to the park.

Prior to renovation, the park was completely enclosed. We began by opening up the street-facing side and introducing high-quality amenities on the first floor, enriching the park’s functional framework.

Along the street frontage
Located at a road intersection, the building facade serves as the focal point of the street presentation. We incorporated design elements such as rain shelters and vertical plant walls to evoke a sense of mountains and valleys. Even from afar, the green rooftop walls stand out, adding a fresh green highlight to the city skyline.

After thoroughly studying the building volumes, we decided to open elevator lobbies on the first through third floors and add outdoor terraces as shared reception and leisure areas. Triangular motifs continue throughout the design, complemented by colored stainless steel panels, water-patterned stainless steel, green walls, and LED screens, striking a balance between technology and nature.

Through thoughtful design, transformation, and upgrading, the CESTC Wangu project aims to become a forward-looking park themed around Internet culture, integrating entrepreneurship, office work, and leisure.
As one of the pioneering renovation projects for outdated buildings and commercial areas in Xihu District, Hangzhou, Zhongdian Wangu is set to become a landmark in the region.
