This project presents a comprehensive design that integrates indoor and outdoor exhibition halls along with the administrative offices of the Aptus concrete block manufacturing plant, located on the outskirts of Karaj.

The design draws inspiration from the ongoing interaction between various building types found in suburban areas, primarily industrial, agricultural, and low-quality residential structures. Typically, low-end residential developments dominate this struggle, often at the expense of landscapes and farmland, which are frequently demolished and replaced by dense, substandard buildings.

The design aims to create a harmonious balance between the indoor landscape and the architectural form. A key consideration in peripheral development is delivering cost-effective building solutions that meet current standards. To address cost efficiency, all interior and exterior decorative layers have been eliminated, using only the company’s concrete blocks as the sole material for the entire building envelope.

Following the initial design principles, the building volume was shaped concurrently with the creation of both external and internal landscapes. Instead of forming a massive “box” surrounded by greenery, the design breaks the volume into smaller, functionally independent boxes. The spaces between these boxes serve as green areas that penetrate the building itself.

The perspectives created between these boxes establish a layered relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces. Limiting the building materials to a single type of concrete block enhances the external atmosphere and allows natural light to filter through, producing varied light qualities throughout the day.

Nearby the Aptus factory, other concrete block manufacturers are located. This project offers a straightforward model for urban development that is not only cost-efficient but also strengthens the connection between built environments and green spaces.
