Super Park is a vibrant commercial center in Bangkok that blends entertainment and shopping. It was designed by Architect Kidd in partnership with Landscape Collaboration, a landscape design firm.
The main building features a structure that encourages plants to grow freely, complementing vertical greenery and integrating with the landscape design. This creates an environmental buffer between indoor and outdoor spaces, allowing natural light and ventilation to flow easily, which is ideal for the tropical climate.

Architect Kidd’s design incorporates a suspended platform that links the shopping center to the surrounding landscape. This creates a seamless flow between the building and the outdoor garden, serving as both a public space and a passageway.

The structure primarily uses 20 cm by 20 cm galvanized steel columns, spaced one meter apart. These steel columns support walkways, canopies, various building systems, and functional areas. This repetitive structural rhythm avoids the large, heavy grids typical of commercial buildings.

The steel structure draws inspiration from Bangkok’s local pedestrian overpasses and infrastructure. Architect Kidd, along with structural engineer Aurecon, transformed the concept of the pedestrian bridge into an open framework building that merges architectural and structural systems. This design supports a wider range of public activities and functional spaces.
The third floor hosts public facilities, parks, commercial, and entertainment areas, all connected to the existing shopping center. A key challenge was converting the previously enclosed commercial space into an outward-facing public environment.

The steel frame establishes a natural rhythm, with its width and height gradually changing to mimic the site’s undulating terrain. This approach ensures the emerging public spaces feel cohesive and organically integrated with nature rather than imposed upon it.
The building’s fluid and natural design creates intimate spaces scaled to human experience.

Originally, the shopping center housed Thailand’s first IKEA and has been open for over ten years. Since then, Southeast Asia’s commercial and urban landscape has evolved significantly. Architect Kidd’s design presents a new model of a shopping center that integrates commerce with community and public space in innovative ways.
