Project Overview
Underer Construction is a small fitness club designed to serve the local community. It combines two adjacent 40-square-meter shops to create a new L-shaped space with a ceiling height of 5.1 meters. This layout offers great flexibility, allowing the addition of a second floor to maximize space use and enhance the overall experience.
The main design challenge was to overcome the confined visual perception typical of small spaces while optimizing spatial utilization.
The gym embraces an “unfinished construction site” aesthetic, continuing the design style from previous projects. Unlike earlier works featuring exposed concrete and I-beams, this design by Daguan Architecture prominently features an exaggerated “yellow warning line” to evoke the atmosphere of an active construction site.

Despite the limited overall area, the entrance maintains a generous 5.1-meter ceiling height. A 45-degree angle created by the reception desk and adjacent wall forms a recessed walkway that naturally guides visitors inside.

Mirror walls on both sides enhance the perception of space within the narrow area.
With the addition of the second floor, careful planning of mechanical and electrical systems was critical due to height constraints. During the design phase, all equipment and piping were precisely modeled, and construction strictly followed these plans to ensure sufficient ceiling height and usability.
