This residence is situated in Mao Khe, a rapidly urbanizing and economically developing region in Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam. Known as the center of coal mining in Quang Ninh, this area historically suffered from poor environmental quality due to industrial activity. However, recent years have seen significant improvements in air quality and the urban environment.

This project aims to create a fresh and natural environment for the residence. The owners, an elderly couple, prefer a simple and peaceful lifestyle, with occasional lively weekends when their children and family visit. The design emphasizes gardens, fish ponds, and thoughtfully crafted architectural spaces.

The residence’s main living area is on the first floor, while the smaller second floor serves as a space for reading and worship. Surrounding the home is a ring of lush green trees, hidden behind the red brick walls. Layers of trees, shrubs, and climbing plants hanging from the roof create a natural canopy, shielding the home from dust and filtering out urban noise.
The central courtyard envelops the main floor, creating a peaceful, radiating space that feels detached from the hustle and bustle of the city.

The indoor spaces are surrounded by nature, designed with natural orientation and interconnected interiors. This creates a seamless flow that connects the inhabitants with nature, with each other, and with themselves.
From anywhere within the residence, residents can enjoy views of one another, the trees, water features, and fish ponds. Through elements like air, sound, and light, the building offers a richer experience of the natural environment.

The primary building materials are red bricks and exposed concrete, which together create a simple, warm, and inviting atmosphere. The choice of materials plays a key role in shaping the architectural space, evoking emotions, and enhancing the overall aesthetic and environmental quality.
In this project, the goal was to craft a living space that feels emotional and closely connected to both people and nature, using straightforward methods and locally sourced materials.
