Jinshan Modern Agricultural Park, located in the southwest suburbs of Shanghai, is undergoing an ambitious transformation into a multifunctional urban-suburban park. Central to this redevelopment is the enhancement of public space within the park’s core area, highlighted by a key project that serves as a guiding element for the entire site. Inspired by traditional Chinese garden architecture, the design prominently features corridors as a thematic element.

An east-west corridor stretches across the site, connecting several isolated agricultural tourism projects located north of the expressway. Plans include extending this corridor westward and linking additional tourism attractions southward via a pedestrian bridge on the eastern landscape terrace. The terrace itself acts as a buffer, shielding visitors from the noise and visual disruption of the expressway, while creating a continuous scenic landscape along the corridor’s side facing the highway, ensuring high visibility from the expressway.

The corridor’s structure is a simple white concrete design, replacing the traditional wooden corridors which tend to be costly and complex. This choice complements the modern agricultural facilities surrounding the park and helps maintain construction costs below the project’s budget limit of 80 euros per square meter. The linear layout extends from east to west, providing ample space for various activity nodes throughout the site.

The courtyard, enclosed by the central corridor and a scenic pavilion, serves as a focal point where visitors gather and engage in activities. The corridor walls feature alternating directional openings, offering an open and fluid spatial experience that blends ease of movement with scenic views. The polished platform at the base of the corridor introduces subtle height variations and strong visual interest, setting it apart from the surrounding environment much like traditional elevated buildings.
