This residence is designed to accommodate four potential expansions, offering residents the flexibility and independence to renovate as they wish. It includes a photography studio that can be expanded for public purposes such as workshops and exhibitions. Initially, only the smallest family living area is provided; the remaining expansion spaces are subtly integrated within the structure, both in terms of construction technique and architectural form. Situated on the city’s outskirts, the site strategy focuses on treating the streamlined surface with a modular, extensible grid system.
The design features a system of galleries and courtyards that act as transitional spaces, challenging the traditional boundaries between indoor and outdoor environments. The goal is to establish a fundamental architectural language where functional arrangements emphasize spatial expansion. These spaces are defined by diverse textures and versatile uses, creating opportunities for growth and transformation. The newly established structure supports change and adaptation, enabling occupants to shape their living environment over time.
Equipment and infrastructure are designed to facilitate updates and modifications, with the residents playing a key role in this ongoing evolution. Their future interventions in personalizing their living space become a vital driving force behind the construction system. This approach ensures the house remains adaptable and can be improved to meet evolving needs.
Designing a residence for flexibility means it is not viewed as a finished product but as a foundation. It initially offers minimal amenities, yet the design anticipates future upgrades, enhanced equipment, and benefits that residents will realize over time. This approach optimizes both economic and material resources.
