Liantang Port, situated in Liantang Street, Luohu District in eastern Shenzhen, is the city’s seventh cross-border land comprehensive port. It plays a crucial role as the eastern gateway in the regional cross-border transportation network, facilitating the “east in, east out, west in, and west out” flow between Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

Distinct from other transportation hubs, Liantang Port is the first to implement a “one-stop customs clearance” process for both passengers and goods, alongside direct transport measures for people and vehicles. This design meets customs requirements from both regions while accommodating efficient planning and layered inspection protocols for pedestrian and vehicle flows, supported by specialized site layout equipment.

The layout strategically places the cargo inspection area on the first floor and the passenger inspection zone on the elevated second-floor platform, achieving vertical separation between cargo and passenger inspections. Additionally, external traffic is optimized by connecting multiple ramp bridges and pedestrian/vehicle bridges to the surrounding infrastructure, enhancing the port’s traffic diversion capacity.

Liantang Port is a flagship project led by the Shenzhen Municipal Government, delivering comprehensive professional and full-process BIM (Building Information Modeling) results. To realize the design’s complex hyperbolic surfaces and large-span structures, Huayang International’s BIM team developed a BIM platform starting in the conceptual phase.
During the construction drawing stage, this platform supported visual design and 3D collaboration, enabling automated data flow and statistical analysis. This innovation has provided valuable experience for setting BIM application standards within the architectural design industry and for optimizing cross-platform collaboration.
The project has earned multiple accolades, including the Best BIM Application Award at the 2015 Hong Kong International BIM Awards, the Best BIM Popularization and Application Award at the 5th “Innovation Cup” BIM Application Design Competition, and first prize in the BIM Special Project category at the 2015 Guangdong Province Excellent Engineering Survey and Design Award.

△ BIM Technology

Focusing on creating a sense of order for pedestrians, the design features a distinctive facade with rhythmic light and shadow effects. This is achieved through the use of a “double inclined flow linear curved surface,” which captures the building’s unique character and the spirit of the era, symbolizing a transition across time and space.
