This remarkable vacation cabin, designed by Yakusha Design for a surfer, appears to precariously perch on the edge of a rocky cliff. Known as the ‘Sky’ cabin, it features a 270° glass structure that creates a sensation of weightlessness, evoking a feeling of impossibility in its architecture.

Situated in a prime location with panoramic views of the horizon and exposure to sea breezes, the design draws inspiration from traditional lighthouses. However, this interpretation is bolder and more extreme, as the cabin literally hangs on the cliff’s edge.

The cabin is supported by a vertical pier anchored with a foundation made from recycled concrete to ensure structural stability. A central pillar occupies a compact interior space, housing essential engineering and communication systems, allowing uninterrupted views of the Atlantic Ocean. Privacy is maintained through a comprehensive curtain system encircling the cabin.

The minimalist interior spans just 48 square meters and includes only essential furniture and facilities. A warm beige color palette creates a cozy atmosphere, providing a stark yet inviting contrast to the rugged environment outside. Functional zones — such as living, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom areas — seamlessly flow into each other.

The cottage’s style merges modern design with natural elements: clean lines, organic-shaped sofas, circular lighting fixtures, straw board wall accents, roughly processed logs, ceramic decorations, and low-profile dining chairs. All furniture is kept minimal and close to the ground to avoid obstructing the dramatic landscape views. The bathroom privacy is ensured by special glass with adjustable opacity.

Victoria Yakusha, founder of Yakusha Design, explains, “This project is a vacation cabin designed for a surfer who is familiar with the powerful forces of nature. We took inspiration from ancient lighthouses — steadfast structures standing at the perilous edge of the earth, guiding ships to safety.”
