The ‘Ceiling and Ellipse’ residence is a renovation of a 20-year-old home, distinguished by its sloping roof and large south-facing windows. The second floor features an open kitchen and living area. Our renovation introduces an elliptical circular ceiling embedded at a height of 1.8 meters, designed to accommodate both people and storage space.

△ Analysis before and after renovation

The elliptical ceiling divides the second-floor space into upper and lower zones, serving both a structural function and an interior design feature. Since the ceiling acts as a structural support, windows are incorporated at its top to enhance natural light and improve indoor ventilation.

Unlike the original wooden structure, this embedded circular ceiling stands as an independent element. The white solid form and the enclosed elliptical void create a complementary relationship between tangible and intangible spaces.
