The Toronto BMX off-road track project was designed and built starting with the 2015 Pan American Games. The entire development strictly adhered to the International Cycling Union (UCI) certification standards. Currently, it stands as the only BMX track project in Canada to have received this official certification.

This unique project was completed using an unconventional approach. The design team explored various materials and conducted extensive research on the use of BMX facilities at international competitions and the Olympic Games. Notably, BMX racing became an official Olympic sport at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics.
Once the track location was selected, the team identified a low-lying area in the park with a large drainage system. Constructing a dirt track requires an effective underground drainage system to ensure structural integrity and proper civil engineering treatment.

Managing water flow efficiently is critical to keeping the track dry within 30 minutes after rainfall, meeting Olympic standards. Additionally, the runoff water quality must comply with Toronto’s conservation agency requirements, since the designated wetland area directly borders the southern part of the site.

The project features a sleek, elegant concrete building serving as a practical warehouse. The building’s form is expressed through the height of the slope and the retaining wall. Prefabricated concrete panels were cast using wooden formwork, resulting in a smooth surface finish that has become a defining characteristic of each element, creating a cohesive architectural language.
