The National Building Research Institute (NBIMS) serves as the research and publishing body for the National BIM Standard (NBIMS) in the United States. It oversees BIM and its related concepts, technologies, methods, processes, and data.

The National Academy of Building Sciences is a non-profit, non-governmental organization, chartered by the U.S. Congress under the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974. It acts as a bridge between government agencies and private institutions in the fields of architectural science and technology.

NIBS’s mission is to advance architectural science and technology to enhance the built environment, complementing the natural environment. The institute unites government officials, experts, industry professionals, labor representatives, and consumers to identify and address challenges affecting the construction of safe and affordable residential, commercial, and industrial facilities. NIBS provides authoritative guidance on the application of building science and technology to both public and private organizations.

Each year, NIBS submits a comprehensive report on building science and technology to the President of the United States.
