The MHS Residence is nestled in the mountainous region of Mahongsorn Province in northern Thailand. Designed by the architectural firm ASWA for a German-Thai couple, this compact home was envisioned as a sculptural element harmonizing with its natural surroundings.

The residence is structured as three staggered, stacked concrete boxes. The ground floor houses a living room, a small food storage area, and a washroom. Above, the second floor contains a studio, with a terrace formed by the overlapping volumes, featuring a massage bathtub.

The master bedroom and bathroom occupy the top floor, featuring transparent glass windows that provide panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. The exterior facades of the second and third floors are clad in artificial wood, lending a warm and lightweight appearance. In contrast, the first floor is constructed with gypsum cement walls, imparting a solid, grounded presence to the building’s base.

Each of the three boxes measures approximately 6.6 meters in width, length, and 3.45 meters in height, resulting in a total building area of around 135 square meters. A key feature contributing to the building’s energy efficiency and natural ventilation is the installation of solar panels on the roof, which supply electricity for hot water heating.
