The STEP standard, developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), is designed to describe product information across the entire product lifecycle. Currently undergoing continuous improvements, this standard is officially known as the Product Data Model Exchange Standard.
STEP was created by the Fourth Subcommittee (SC4) of ISO’s Technical Committee on Industrial Automation and Integration (TC184) and is identified by the ISO code ISO-10303. It offers a neutral, system-independent method for exchanging and sharing product data.
This approach not only enables seamless file exchange but also serves as a foundation for managing and sharing product databases and archives. Developed countries have already advanced the STEP standard toward industrial applications, recognizing its value in reducing costs associated with information exchange throughout the product lifecycle.
By enhancing research and development efficiency, STEP has become a fundamental standard in the manufacturing industry for international cooperation and competition. It remains a vital tool for businesses worldwide to maintain their competitiveness.
