Tracks Architects, a French architectural firm, has designed a new multi-cinema complex located in the upcoming “Cultural Park” near Lyon’s historic city center. This project features an arch built atop a concrete cube, housing three cinemas with a combined seating capacity of 543, along with a conference room that accommodates 112 people.

The design divides the building into two intersecting volumes that complement each other in texture, color, and scale. The first volume matches the height of the existing fence, integrating ‘Volvic stone’—a local material reused as aggregate in the concrete exterior walls. These walls feature darker tones, interrupted facades, and inserted arches that reveal the spaces behind, reflecting a contemporary reinterpretation of local materials and the site’s history.

In contrast to the darker, rough facade of the first volume, the second is a lighter, complementary form that serves as a city landmark with its carefully designed perforated walls. Positioned in front of the “Cultural Park” and the Savior Monastery, this white concrete structure expresses both solidity and fragility through a continuous series of arches.

The bold graphic motif on the facade enhances the ethereal image of the nearby monastery and Balvi Green Square. Spatially, the cinema hall’s corridor opens outward to invite natural light and pedestrian flow. Despite the presence of arches at the front, the architects emphasize that these commemorative gateways welcome visitors into a sunlit, lively interior space that includes a large exhibition hall.

The design features a spacious, continuous area extending from a covered outdoor corridor lined with arches. To access the cinemas, visitors pass through an entrance hall that wraps around the conference room. The layout draws inspiration from the film industry, creating a circulation path that flows around rooms and buildings, fostering dynamic movement.
