The northern region of Iran, located near the metropolis of Tehran, attracts a diverse range of tourists and non-native cultures each year. This influx brings a dynamic social atmosphere, especially on weekends.
Many villas have been constructed in this area, often lacking harmony with the local architectural style and competing with traditional models. These developments reveal an unclear identity, largely shaped by migration trends.

The client for this project moved to Tehran at a young age from a traditional and introverted cultural background. He purchased two adjacent plots in a village and aimed to merge them to build a centrally located villa.

The primary challenge was reconciling the client’s inward-looking cultural perspective with the northern region’s more outward-facing social climate.
This contrast defines the conceptual framework of the project. The goal was to create a villa that reflects the region’s extroverted character while accommodating the client’s traditional, introverted lifestyle.

This tension between cultural orientations became the central theme of the design. Another significant limitation was the client’s modest budget. Balancing these factors led to a design approach that blends introverted and extroverted qualities while maintaining privacy from neighboring villas.

Given the client’s budget constraints, we suggested constructing the villa on just one of the two plots. If financial challenges arise during construction, the other plot could be sold.
The plan is to build a relatively enclosed villa on one plot, while transforming the second plot into a garden that extends the villa’s central space, providing a semi-open outdoor area. This design ensures privacy from neighbors without the need for high walls, aligning with the client’s lifestyle and budget.

Local Opportunities and Material Choices
One key limitation was the lack of skilled local construction workers. Cement and concrete are the most affordable and familiar materials for local laborers.
We opted for a spatial design that avoids excessive costs, employing simple brick walls as an economical yet effective element to define both the exterior form and interior spaces.
