How to Create a Polyline Section in Revit
In Revit, section views are linked to section line symbols. To create a polyline section, you first need to use the Profile command to draw a line section. After establishing the line section, you can generate a polyline section based on it.
Using the villa project from the Ubi Civil Engineering Training Course as an example (see image), start by navigating to the View panel and selecting the Profile command. Draw a straight section line segment in a plan view to create a new section view named “Section 1.”
Next, select the section line and click Modify on the panel, then choose the Split Line Segment command (illustrated in the figure). The cursor will change to a knife icon. Move the cursor to the point where you want to split the section line and click to divide it into two segments. The cursor will then switch to a move arrow. Drag the segment you want to adjust to the desired cut position and click again to place it. Press the Place button to finalize. After creating the line section in the plan view, “Section 1” will automatically update to display the line section view.
For line sections, you can also adjust the view range by dragging the blue double triangles and other markers, similar to how you would for standard line sections. Currently, Revit does not support creating elevations or sections that unfold along curved lines; these must be drawn manually or pieced together to simulate the unfolding effect.
