How to Quickly Batch Select Desired Objects in Revit When Working with Model Elements
In Revit, there are several methods to select objects, and combining these techniques can help you efficiently select multiple objects at once.
(1) Click Selection
Click on an object to select it. Hold the Ctrl key and click additional objects one by one to select multiple items. To deselect an object, hold Shift and click the selected object.
When your cursor is near a selected object and the object is highlighted, press the Tab key to cycle through adjacent objects.
(2) Box Selection
Click and hold the left mouse button, then drag the cursor from left to right to select all objects fully enclosed within the rectangular selection box. Dragging from right to left will select objects that are either inside or intersect the box.
Holding Ctrl allows you to add more objects to your selection, while holding Shift lets you remove objects from the selection.
(3) Select All Instances
Select an object, right-click, and choose “Select all instances” from the context menu. This will select all instances of the same type as the chosen object. You can specify whether to select all instances visible in the current view or throughout the entire project using the dropdown options.
Alternatively, in the Project Browser’s family list, right-click on a specific family type and use the same command to select all instances of that type either in the current view or across the project.
(4) Filter
After selecting multiple objects, go to Modify > Filter. In the Filter dialog box, simply check the categories you want to isolate. For example, selecting the “Wall” category will filter and select all walls within your current selection.
