BIM Software Tips: Creating Springs Using Mass in Revit
1. Start by creating a new Metric Conventional Model family file. Navigate to the Create tab, then the Shape panel, and select the Layout Fusion command. Click on the Draw Path tool, then choose the Center-Endpoint Arc option. Draw an arc with a radius of 400 mm and a 180-degree angle to form the arc length. Click the checkmark (√) to complete the path drawing.
2. Select Contour 1 and click Edit Outline, then press the Open View button. In this view, draw a circle with a 50 mm radius at the cross-section of Contour 1. Confirm by clicking the checkmark (√). Next, select Contour 2, click Edit Outline again, and draw another circle with a 50 mm radius at the cross-section of Contour 2, positioning its center 100 mm above the center of the previous cross-section. Click the checkmark (√) to finalize Contour 2.
3. Click the checkmark (√) to complete the drawing. Open the Floor Plan in the Project Browser and navigate to the corresponding plan view. Select the model you created, then go to the Modify panel and choose the Rotate command. Enable the Copy option, set the rotation center to the intersection point of two reference planes, and enter 180 degrees in the angle field. Press Enter to apply the rotation.
4. In the Project Browser, double-click the Front Elevation to open that view. Select the copied model, then use the Move command from the Modify panel to move the model upward.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to continue copying and moving the model until the spring is complete.
