How Tekla Uses Base Points to Insert Reference Models

How to Insert Reference Models in Tekla Using Base Points

Before inserting reference models, you need to establish a base point in your model. This requires knowing the coordinates of the reference model you wish to insert.

Follow these steps to insert a reference model:

1. Click the Reference Model button in the side pane to open the reference model list.

2. Click the “Add Model” button within the reference model list.

3. In the Add Model dialog box, if you have any previously saved reference model property files, select the appropriate file from the property file list at the top and load it.

4. Click Browse to locate and select the reference model.

5. Choose or enter a group name for the reference model. If you leave this blank, the reference model will be inserted into the default group.

6. Under Position, select the base point you want to use.

7. Finally, click the Add Model button to insert the reference model.

In Tekla Structures 2017, the reference model is inserted relative to the selected base point. The coordinate system values, elevation, and angle are defined by the base point in the model’s engineering properties.
