Project Overview

The gymnasium at Beijing Architecture University’s Daxing Campus (BIM Training) is located in Daxing District, Beijing. The total construction area spans 19,152 square meters, which includes 7,834 square meters above ground, 11,317 square meters underground, and 4,457 square meters of building area.

The main building features one floor above ground, with some areas extending up to three floors, and two underground levels. The ground level houses a comprehensive sports hall with 1,000 fixed seats and 2,000 movable stands. It supports a variety of sports including basketball, tennis, volleyball, badminton, aerobics, and more. Additionally, a stage is located on the east side of the indoor space to accommodate performing arts and conferences. The indoor venue can host 2,000 spectators for sporting events, 2,500 for performances, and up to 3,000 attendees for conferences.

The underground levels contain a swimming pool, a fitness center, and supporting facilities. The structure is built with reinforced concrete frame shear walls and features a steel mesh shell roof.

Design Philosophy

Situated at the north gate entrance of the campus, the building’s design is influenced by its surroundings and the dynamic flow of people on site. This interaction creates a counterclockwise rotational motion from the ground up to the air, with the venue’s form undulating to provide an entrance space for the underground swimming pool and an above-ground basketball court.

The building’s facade employs parametric design techniques, optimizing window and wall placement by analyzing environmental factors such as light, wind, and sound. Integrated LED lighting enhances the structure’s ecological efficiency, energy savings, and technological presence. The design embodies the themes of rotational speed, impactful force, scientific innovation, and the Olympic spirit of faster, higher, and stronger.

Upon completion, the gymnasium became the second iconic building on Beijing Jianzhu University’s Daxing Campus. It complements the southern library and aligns north-south, creating a dynamic contrast between movement, geometric form, and spatial balance, thereby enhancing the campus’s overall functionality and aesthetic harmony.
