How to Edit Truss Profiles in Revit
In non-planar views such as vertical elevations, sections, or 3D views, you can edit the range of a truss. You have the flexibility to create new lines, delete existing ones, and use the Trim/Edit tool to adjust the truss contour.
By modifying the truss outline, you can reshape its upper and lower chords to any desired form. Note that not all truss families can be accurately converted into contour sketches. To ensure the upper and lower chords align with the contour, the drawing lines for these chords in the layout family must align precisely with the top and bottom reference planes respectively.
Keep in mind that curves created using the upper and lower chord reference tools in the contour sketch define how the top and bottom reference planes transform, rather than directly shaping the chords themselves.
To begin editing, select the truss you want to modify and edit its outline.
Navigate to the Modify | Structural Truss tab, then in the Mode panel, click Edit Outline.
Within the Modify | Structural Truss > Edit Outline tab, choose the Draw panel for either the upper or lower chord.
Select the line tool and draw the new contour to define the truss shape.
Next, select and delete the old plane contour.
When finished, click Finish Editing Mode on the ribbon.
The truss model will automatically adjust to fit the new contour constraints. If needed, you can further edit the chord members when attaching the truss.
Note that if the truss is attached to an edited chord, the contour changes will be ignored. The chord’s geometry will then be determined by the attachment surface of the structural floor or roof. However, if the truss is later detached, the previously edited outline shape will be retained and displayed.
Tip: To reset the truss components to their default settings, go to the Modify | Structural Truss tab, then in the Mode panel, click Reset Profile. This tool performs the following actions:
- Resets the size of replaced components to the dimensions defined by the truss object’s Type, Attributes, and Structure Type parameters.
- Restores any deleted components.
- Returns repositioned components to their original positions.
- Unlocks any unlocked elements and resets the instance parameters of replaced components to default values.
