How to Add Color to Steel Bars in Revit
When modeling reinforcement for columns and beams, it’s often helpful to assign different colors to steel bars based on their position and function. So, how can you add color to steel bars in Revit? Let’s start by drawing a column, arranging its reinforcement, and then switching to a 3D view (adjusting the reinforcement visibility as needed).
Next, select the steel bars you want to recolor. Right-click on them, choose the option that appears, and then select Replace Graphics in View > By Element.
A View Specific Graphic Overrides dialog box will appear. Since we’re in a 3D view, you can only modify the surface style of the elements (in section views, you would adjust the display style of the section instead). Here, focus on the settings under the Surface Fill Pattern section—specifically, adjust the Fill Pattern and Color options as shown below:
After applying these changes, you’ll see that the steel bars have turned red.
You can use the same process to change the colors of other steel bars, as illustrated in the following figure:
