Guanshengyuan Company, with a rich history spanning over 100 years, is situated on Guiping Road, a street lined with wutong trees.
This project involves the renovation of eight buildings within this area.

▲ Exterior View
These eight relatively small buildings are clustered together, forming a community. Walking through them offers an experience similar to strolling along a street.

Our goal is to transform the buildings to harmonize with the surrounding environment while maintaining the perfect scale of these low-rise structures.

▲ Sense of Scale
The balcony details are designed to match the window frames, enhancing the overall functionality and cohesion of the buildings.

Shanghai is home to many beautiful old Western-style houses built during the concession period, each with unique characteristics. For this project, we aimed to create a community of individual old Western-style houses.
To preserve the unique soft ambiance of the original facades, we selected washed stone and teak wood—materials commonly used for the exterior of old villas.

Vertical greening not only enriches the inner street landscape but also contributes to the energy efficiency of the walls.

The renovated buildings recreate a rhythmic architectural harmony through varied building volumes, layered facades, staggered window placements, and multi-angled French windows.

▲ Interlocking Windows
While preserving the scale of the original factory buildings in Guanshengyuan, the renovation introduces new vitality and a distinctive Shanghai character.

▲ Vibrant Atmosphere
The staircase leading to the second floor is combined with landscaped flower beds, creating an inviting space. The second-floor viewing platform offers panoramic views of the upcoming Sakura Avenue to the west.

The park has been developed into a cultural and creative complex that integrates work, entertainment, and art. Garden-style courtyards between the buildings serve as leisure and office spaces.
