How to Create Overlapping Mass Faces in Revit: Step-by-Step Guide

Steps for Overlapping Mass Faces in Revit

In a project environment, any connected and overlapping mass faces can be split into two distinct faces: an inner face and an outer face. This functionality allows you to create bodies with either internal or external faces. In the image below, two volumes are connected, and the overlapping faces belong to two different bodies. The external surface includes the curtain wall system, while the interior consists of walls and doors.

Once the masses are connected, the area of the internal walls shared between the masses is subtracted from the total surface area of each mass. If you create a volume floor, the interior wall area will also be deducted from the exterior surface area of each volume floor. However, the perimeter of a mass floor always includes the entire perimeter, even when it overlaps with the perimeter of adjacent connected mass floors.
