The Buyu Yingke store, located in the bustling Sanlitun commercial district, offers a unique dual experience: it serves coffee during the day and transforms into a vibrant bar at night. Designed by SODA Architects, the space seamlessly blends physical architecture with dynamic virtual imagery, allowing the atmosphere to evolve throughout the day.

During daylight hours, the serene white interior creates a peaceful retreat for visitors amidst the urban hustle. As night falls, lanterns illuminate the space, and the animated corals and schools of fish become the focal point, bringing the environment to life.

The flowing waves of the ocean have been solidified into a sculptural GRG (Glass Reinforced Gypsum) surface that smoothly transitions from the ceiling to the walls, enveloping the entire café. To achieve this flawless finish, a professional sculpture production team was engaged for the GRG fabrication.

Projected onto this white GRG curved surface are dynamic images of coral and schools of fish, creating the illusion of movement as if they were drifting with the ocean waves. This effect was designed using BIM technology.

When these videos are projected onto the concave and convex curved surfaces, the visual effect mimics the optical distortion caused by light refracting through waves, making the underwater scenes remarkably lifelike. Immersed in this setting, visitors feel as though they are experiencing an underwater illusion.

As day turns into night, this 30-square-meter space effortlessly shifts between a tranquil café and a lively bar. The pure white curved backdrop combined with the ever-changing, captivating projections injects emotion and variety into the space, making it both dynamic and engaging.
