How to Create Multiple Family Types in a Single Revit Model File
In Revit, you can use the Family Types tool to create multiple variations (sizes or types) within a single family. This process requires adding dimension labels and adjusting parameter values for each type.
Follow these steps:
- Open Revit and select the Metric Conventional Model template file, as shown in the image.
- Go to the Create tab and use the Modify tools to design a YBd prefabricated substation family. Add the necessary parameters and name the family YBd Prefabricated Substation Appearance and Layout, as illustrated.
- Under the Create tab, in the Properties panel, select Family Types. In the dialog box, create four different family types within the same model file. For example, name the first type YBd Prefabricated Substation Appearance One, as depicted in the figure.
- Within the Family Types dialog, enter the corresponding rated capacity and quality parameters for YBd Prefabricated Substation Appearance One, as shown.
- Repeat steps 3 and 4 to create additional types, naming them YBd Prefabricated Substation Appearance Two, YBd Prefabricated Substation Appearance Three, and YBd Prefabricated Substation Appearance Four, respectively, as demonstrated.
Summary: By following this tutorial, you can efficiently create multiple family types within a single Revit model file. Each type will have its own set of properties, including dimension labels and parameter values. You can also customize standard family parameters such as material, model, quality, and other relevant factors.
