I have often discussed BIM software with my friends, but many still have questions. Today, I want to provide an overview: What are BIM software series? An introduction to their functions.
Autodesk Revit: This software offers 3D modeling that delivers essential information for BIM during the initial design phase and construction documentation. It supports design drawings, quantity takeoffs, and clash detection necessary for building projects.
ArchiCAD: ArchiCAD allows design files to be presented in a 3D environment, including building structures and MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) models. It supports clash analysis, quantity reports, color simulations, animations, and is compatible with both IFC and BCF formats.
TEKLA Structures: A professional 3D modeling software focused on structural design. It includes features such as 3D structural modeling, steel and precast concrete detailing, project management, and automatic generation of BOM (Bill of Materials) reports.
Bentley AECOsim Building Designer: This tool supports architectural, structural, and MEP design, as well as energy consumption analysis, document management, and visualization for buildings of any scale.
SketchUp: Known for its simple and intuitive interface, SketchUp allows easy operation and can import CAD drawings, photos, aerial images, and other data to enhance modeling accuracy. It offers high compatibility, enabling import and export with CAD, 3ds Max, and various rendering software.
3ds Max: A powerful rendering software widely used in multimedia, gaming, industrial design, architectural visualization, and 3D animation. Revit models can be directly imported into 3ds Max for advanced rendering.
Magicapp: Specialized BIM modeling software for electromechanical systems. It includes a professional BIM component database for MEP products and is compatible with other BIM software archives.
Robot Structural Analysis Professional: Structural analysis and design software that can directly analyze Revit models. Its open API offers extended possibilities for integration and customization.
AutoCAD: A widely used standard format for technical drawings, facilitating detailed drawings, views, annotations, leaders, and more.
Autodesk Project Vasari: Autodesk’s analysis software designed to simulate solar radiation and sunlight paths, aiding energy analysis.
Navisworks: Enables model walkthroughs to detect clashes and integrates construction models with project schedules. Its TimeLiner feature allows simulation of construction progress, also known as “4D simulation.”
Lumion: Visualization software developed for the construction industry. It imports basic models and enables quick scene creation and rendering by adjusting ambient lighting with simple settings, resulting in realistic presentations.
Enscape: A real-time rendering tool that works directly as an external plugin with Revit, SketchUp, and Rhino.
Guanglian Da (QTO): Integrates building material quantity calculations into BIM workflows. It uses IFC files for fast and complete model import/export and includes built-in “Measurement Rules for Domestic Construction Engineering Standards” to improve measurement accuracy.
