Using Part Functions to Cut Beams in Revit: A Step-by-Step Guide

How to Use Part Functions to Cut Beams in Revit

How do you cut a beam when its cross-section is inclined? For example, how can you achieve the beam shape shown in the diagram by cutting it using the part functions in Revit?

First, draw the beam and select it. In the Create panel of the Modify toolbar, click the Create Parts icon.

After clicking Create Parts, if components with part functions appear, choose Split Parts.

Next, before editing the sketch, set a work plane for cutting the beam. In the Modify toolbar, select Set, then choose Pick a Plane to define the cutting plane.

With the work plane set, proceed to edit the sketch accordingly.

After finishing the sketch and returning to the 3D view, you may notice the beam has not been cut yet. Select the shape of the previously cut beam, then in the Modify toolbar, click Exclude Parts to complete the cutting process.
