How to Paste Revit Screenshots into CAD Files
The detailed 3D pipeline model created in Revit offers an intuitive view; however, construction typically relies on flat drawings. To enhance these CAD drawings, you can insert screenshots of the 3D model directly into the CAD file. Note that using external links is not recommended, as images may become invalid during file transfer. Below, we will guide you through the process of embedding textures into CAD.
1. Capture a screenshot of a complex area within Revit and save the image to a folder on your desktop, as shown below.
2. Open your CAD software, navigate to the Insert menu, and select OLE Object… as illustrated.
3. In the Object Type dialog, locate and select the image file type, as demonstrated in the image.
4. Click the dropdown arrow next to Paste and choose Paste from Source. Then, browse to the 3D screenshot saved on your desktop and click Open, as shown.
5. In the upper-left corner, click the tab labeled Update Document. The image will automatically import into your CAD drawing. Adjust the size and position of the image carefully to ensure it does not obstruct your view of the CAD elements while allowing clear visualization of complex 3D nodes, as depicted below.
Why This Matters: Following these steps allows you to enrich exported Revit drawings with more intuitive and clear 3D information. This helps viewers better understand comprehensive management plans and design concepts. When reporting issues, combining textual descriptions with visual aids and precise drawing positioning enables designers to quickly grasp the problem, improving communication and work efficiency.
