The China Resources Building, designed by KPF, officially opened on December 18th, showcasing a cutting-edge BIM architectural style. This 400-meter tall tower stands proudly in Shenzhen Bay’s thriving Houhai Business District, introducing a fresh urban aesthetic to Shenzhen through its innovative structural design and precise geometric form.

The design draws inspiration from the natural form of bamboo shoots, symbolizing limitless vitality, steady growth, progress, and breakthroughs. Additionally, the building’s outer circular shape and inner square, combined with its radial symmetry, reflect Eastern cultural principles of “square and radius.”

The building’s structure features a dense steel column frame paired with a concrete core tube, enabling an open floor plan free of interior columns. The tower’s circular floor plan embraces radial symmetry, supported by 56 columns spaced between 2.4 and 3.8 meters apart, with outer widths ranging from 30 to 40 centimeters. Floor diameters vary from 60 meters at the base, expanding to 68 meters at the midsection, and tapering to 35 meters at the top.

The open floor plan eliminates pillars in public office and leisure areas, allowing for 360-degree natural light through the glass curtain walls. Occupants enjoy panoramic views of Shenzhen Bay, including the sea, lake, park, and golf course.

At the base and top of the building, 56 columns converge and intersect to form 28 columns. The building’s bottom and top are adorned with multifaceted triangular glass panels, giving it a sculptural aesthetic. The angled grid columns on the facade converge at the first floor, creating a series of precisely positioned lower-level entrances.

The lobby’s interior design echoes the diamond-like texture seen throughout the BIM design, featuring natural, delicate limestone materials. Twenty-eight columns extend upward to the full 400-meter height, converging at the tower’s peak, capped by a single-piece stainless steel tip.

The tower’s “Sky Hall,” located at its summit, offers various business support functions. This magnificent conical space, featuring an exquisite spiral cross-structure, is one of the few ultra-tall towers worldwide open for visitors at its highest point. At night, the illuminated China Resources Building shines like a gem in Shenzhen Bay’s commercial district.
