Creating Hollow and Solid Shapes Using Sweep Curves in Revit
In Revit, spline curves are frequently used as a versatile drawing tool. But how can you use a layout curve to create both hollow and solid shapes along the same path? Below is a step-by-step explanation.
1. Begin by selecting the Metric Standard Model family template to create a new family. Click on the layout command, then choose the spline curve option to draw your path, as illustrated.
2. Once the path sketch is complete, select the path and navigate to the Modify tab. Under the Clipboard panel, use the Copy to Clipboard command, as shown in the image.
3. After copying, click Complete Editing Mode. For example, draw a circular outline. Once the layout is finished, create the shape as demonstrated in the figure.
4. Next, select the hollow layout command. When drawing the new path, use the Paste from Clipboard command to paste the previously copied path exactly in the same location, as shown.
5. Then, draw a smaller circle inside the original outline to serve as the hollow shape. Complete the layout editing, and the resulting shape will appear as illustrated.
Explanation: While creating a family, you might encounter situations where copying or referencing paths or sketches isn’t straightforward. This method teaches the importance of effectively using the clipboard Copy and Paste commands during sketching to reuse paths easily. Mastering this technique enables you to create models with identical paths or sketches efficiently.
