BIM Software Tip: Creating Families with Revit Details
Detail construction families are primarily used for producing detailed drawings. Their characteristics and creation methods are similar to annotation families. However, a key difference is that when a detail construction family is loaded into a project, its displayed size remains fixed and does not change with the project’s display scale.
Below, I will guide you through the process of creating a simple detail drawing family.
1. Start by selecting New > Family > Metric Detail Project.
2. Open the Family Parameters and Family Types dialog boxes to review the settings.
3. Add the necessary parameters as shown in the family category dialog box.
4. Draw the detailed outline in the drawing area and add annotations accordingly.
5. Next, fill in the fields by clicking the Fill Area tool located on the detail panel. Use the rectangle drawing tool to create the filled areas as illustrated below. In the type selection dialog, choose Concrete, then click the Finish button. Repeat this process for other filled areas. The completed result should look like the following figure.
6. Finally, save your family with a scale of 1:5.
